AKCP sensorProbeX+ SPX4 – Modular monitoring for IT and industry

AKCP sensorProbeX+ SPX4

Modern IT infrastructures and industrial facilities face constant pressure for maximum availability, while being threatened by climate fluctuations, overloads, or physical risks. The AKCP sensorProbeX+ SPX4 provides a powerful monitoring solution that meets the needs of IT and facility managers alike. As a full-featured platform for server room monitoring and data center security, the SPX4 combines modular design, high reliability, low power consumption, and broad network protocol support.

As a flagship model within the sensorProbeX+ series, the SPX4 sets new standards for efficiency and durability, consuming only 1 watt and providing an MTBF of over 10 million hours. It establishes the ideal foundation for real-time monitoring of critical infrastructures, enabling early detection of risks.

Modular Architecture – Maximum Flexibility

At the core of the AKCP sensorProbeX+ SPX4 is its modular system. The base version includes four intelligent RJ45 sensor ports, suitable for diverse scenarios. Expansion modules such as Sensor4 or E-Sensor8 allow additional ports to be added as needed, ensuring scalability while remaining cost-effective.

Key expansion options include:

  • Sensor4 modules – add four more sensor connections
  • E-Sensor8 – up to 8 more sensors via RS485
  • Dry Contact Modules – 10 or 20 dry contact inputs
  • Mini relays – control external systems directly
  • UPS modules – integrated NiMH backup power
  • PoE module – power supply via Ethernet

This modular approach makes the SPX4 suitable for both small server rooms and distributed global data center deployments.

Versatile Sensor Integration

The SPX4 supports the full AKCP intelligent sensor portfolio, covering all aspects of IT infrastructure monitoring:

  • Temperature and humidity sensors – from standard to extreme thermocouples
  • Airflow monitoring – optimizing cooling strategies in rack monitoring
  • Water leakage sensors – point or rope detection under raised floors
  • Smoke sensors – early fire detection
  • Power sensors – AC/DC measurement for energy optimization
  • Physical security sensors – door contacts, glass break, PIR motion
  • Specialized sensors – fuel or chemical detection

With this wide range, the SPX4 is a universal monitoring solution for server rooms, industry halls, utilities, and facility management IT.

Advanced Alarming and Integration

Reliable alarm management is key to effective monitoring. The SPX4 supports multi-stage alarm chains tailored to organizational needs. Events are forwarded via SNMP traps to central platforms like Nagios, PRTG, or Tivoli.

Additional alarm channels include:

  • E-mail alerts via SMTP/SMTPS
  • SMS notifications via GSM/LTE modules
  • HTTPS push for cloud integration

Installation and Mounting Options

Designed for versatility, the SPX4 can be installed in various ways:

  • 19” rack mount as 1U unit
  • 0U rack mount for space-saving
  • DIN rail installation for cabinets
  • Wall mounting with brackets

With only 1 watt consumption and compact dimensions, it fits seamlessly into small or large infrastructures.

Practical Applications

  • Server room monitoring – temperature, humidity, and access control
  • Data center monitoring – scalable platform for large installations
  • Facility management – integration with building automation
  • Industrial monitoring – ensuring cooling chains and process control
  • Telecom & remote sites – securing small locations with GSM/4G modules

Security and Protocol Support

The SPX4 supports a wide protocol range: SNMP v1/v2/v3, MQTT/MQTTS, and HTTPS. Secure e-mail communication is built-in. RADIUS and TACACS provide robust authentication, while up to 500 users can be managed with full role-based access control – ensuring compliance with modern IT security standards.

DCIM Integration

As part of the AKCess Pro ecosystem, the SPX4 integrates seamlessly with AKCess Pro DCIM, offering unified functionality for video surveillance, access control, and rack-level security under a single interface.
