AKCP Water Sensor – Precise leak detection for IT and industry

AKCP Spot Water Sensor (WSxx)

Water damage is among the most common causes of IT failures in data centers, server rooms, or laboratory environments. Even small amounts of liquid can cause short circuits, system failures, or irreversible damage. The AKCP Spot Water Sensor (WSxx) provides a reliable, highly sensitive solution for water leak detection. Designed for professional use, it detects not only tap water or condensation but also distilled, deionized, or demineralized water—liquids that many conventional sensors fail to recognize.

Functionality and Sensor Technology

The AKCP Spot Water Sensor uses capacitive microprocessor technology. This allows detection of a wide range of conductive liquids regardless of purity level. As soon as liquid contacts the sensor points, the leak is detected within seconds and reported to the connected monitoring base unit.

Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: 55 × 39 × 27 mm (compact sensor housing)
  • Mounting: screw-fastening, flexible placement (e.g. under raised floors, behind server cabinets)
  • Connection: RJ45 port via Cat5/6 cable
  • Power supply: directly via base unit (no power adapter required)
  • Status indication: LED (steady = active, blinking = water contact)

Cable Lengths and Variants

  • Standard cable length: 1.5 m
  • Optional lengths: 4.5 m, 12 m, 18 m
  • Max extension: up to 150 m with standard Cat5/Cat6

Easy Integration

The AKCP Spot Water Sensor WSxx connects directly to a sensorProbe or securityProbe base unit via intelligent RJ45 port. With AutoSense technology, it is automatically detected and integrated into the monitoring system. Custom alarm thresholds, escalation levels, and response actions can be configured through the web interface. In SNMP-enabled systems such as Nagios, OpenNMS, WhatsUp Gold, or IBM Tivoli, the sensor status can be queried in real time.

Alarm and Notification System

  • E-mail: instant notification upon water detection
  • SMS: alerts via GSM gateway to mobile devices
  • SNMP traps: for integration into central network monitoring
  • Additional actions: activation of relays, pumps, or emergency shutdowns

Typical Applications

  • Data centers & server rooms: water leak protection under raised floors and near HVAC systems
  • Production & logistics: prevention of downtime due to leaks
  • Research & medical: monitoring of sensitive lab equipment and medical technology
  • Building systems: integration into switch cabinets, pump rooms, cooling systems
  • Refrigeration: leak detection in freezers and cold storage areas

Economic Benefits

A water leak sensor prevents costly damage. Early detection by the AKCP Spot Water Sensor protects hardware, reduces downtime risks, and enables scheduled preventive action. Its ability to reliably detect even distilled water makes it essential in environments with UPS systems, cooling circuits, and purified water installations. The sensor quickly pays for itself by preventing damages and costly interruptions.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Spot Water Sensor detect distilled water?
Yes, with capacitive microprocessor technology it reliably detects deionized and demineralized water.

What is the maximum cable length?
Up to 100 m with Cat5 or Cat6 cable.

Does the sensor require its own power adapter?
No, it is powered directly via the base unit.

How does it trigger alarms?
Via e-mail, SMS, SNMP traps, sirens, or coupled strobe lights.

Where is the sensor typically used?
From data centers and industrial warehouses to laboratories and medical facilities.

The AKCP Spot Water Sensor WSxx is the ideal solution for early water leak detection in IT and industrial environments. With its unique ability to detect even low-conductivity liquids, it delivers maximum security. With AutoSense, plug-and-play installation, SNMP integration, and comprehensive alarm features, it is an indispensable component of modern monitoring strategies. Operators of data centers, server rooms, and industrial plants benefit from increased reliability, reduced risk of damage, and faster response times.

AKCP Water Sensor

AKCP Water Sensor
The AKCP Water Sensor, also known as WSxx Spot Water Sensor, was specially developed for the reliable detection of water and water-containing liquids in sensitive areas. It is ideally suited for IT infrastructures such as data centers, server rooms, research facilities, production sites, or logistics centers, where even small amounts of moisture can cause significant damage.

A water leak caused by heavy rain, burst pipes, defective air-conditioning units, or sprinkler systems can lead to system failures, data loss, or short circuits within a short time. The situation becomes particularly critical when distilled water, such as that from faulty UPS batteries, escapes—since it is not detected by many sensors. However, the AKCP Water Sensor also detects deionized water, made possible by its capacitive microprocessor technology.
