IP WatchDog2 Lite – Compact network monitoring with automated reboots for maximum system availability
The HW group IP WatchDog2 Lite is a powerful, compact solution for monitoring up to ten network devices. This system reliably detects device failures and automatically reboots devices to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted operation. Whether for routers, switches, IP cameras, or Wi‑Fi access points, this network watchdog maintains constant availability of your IT infrastructure.
With its sturdy metal housing, flexible configuration options, and full integration into modern monitoring systems, the IP WatchDog2 Lite is designed for organizations that demand maximum reliability and uptime.
Functionality and Applications
The IP WatchDog2 Lite continuously monitors network device availability via LAN. If a device becomes unresponsive, up to two connected physical devices can be automatically restarted using relay outputs. This restart can be triggered either by a short power interruption or a reset signal. Manual reboots are also possible at any time through the password‑protected web interface.
Failure Detection Methods:
- Outgoing ping – periodic requests to monitored devices
- Incoming ping (heartbeat) – awaiting responses from devices
- Web request – checking the availability of a defined URL
- Webserver request – incoming calls to the device’s internal webserver
- Manual restart – user‑initiated action via web interface
This flexible approach makes the IP WatchDog2 Lite suitable for multiple scenarios, such as activating backup internet connections, rebooting non‑responsive devices, or ensuring operational uptime for kiosk systems and charging stations.
Technical Configuration and Integration
The device provides 12 monitoring channels, two of which are physical relay outputs (AC 50 V / 0.5 A, DC 30 V / 1 A) capable of rebooting devices directly. The remaining channels operate as virtual outputs for integration with external HW group devices such as Poseidon2 or Damocles2. Configuration is handled through the built‑in webserver, allowing customization of intervals, alarm conditions, and notifications.
Alarm Functions:
- SNMP Trap – for integration with network management systems
- Email Notification – via SMTP or SensDesk
- SMS & phone call – using the HWg‑SMS‑GW3 gateway within the same LAN
An internal data logger stores up to 200 events, which can be exported to Excel using HWg‑PDMS software. Supported communication protocols include SNMP, XML, and HWg‑Push; the device is compatible with HWg‑Trigger software and the SensDesk portal.
