Didactum Expansion Unit – Connect additional sensors to your monitoring system

The Didactum 8x Analog Expansion Unit extends your Didactum monitoring system by up to eight additional analog sensor ports. Designed for companies and organizations requiring a large number of sensors for comprehensive infrastructure monitoring, the unit integrates seamlessly into existing monitoring chains via the CAN bus.

Whether in data centers, server rooms, industrial plants, or building management systems, the expansion unit ensures precise data collection, reliable alerts, and greater control over monitoring processes.

Easy integration via CAN bus

The expansion unit connects directly to the CAN bus port of the Didactum monitoring system using a standard RJ12 patch cable. It is automatically detected (“autosense function”) through the web interface. Users can immediately view, name, and configure added sensors individually.

Transmission distances of up to 225 meters between the main system and the expansion unit are supported, allowing remote areas to be flexibly included in the data collection process.

Key technical features

  • Compatibility: All Didactum monitoring systems
  • Sensor ports: 8 ports for analog sensors
  • CAN ports: 2 RJ12 connectors with built‑in termination
  • Extension distance: Up to 225 m from the main device
  • Indicators: 2 LEDs for connection status
  • Management: Conveniently controlled via the system web interface
  • Auto‑detection: Autosense function, no setup required

Flexible integration and Daisy‑Chain support

Thanks to integrated Daisy‑Chain technology, multiple CAN units can be connected in series, enabling the creation of large sensor networks – ideal for complex IT environments or building‑wide monitoring systems.

Each new unit increases the number of connected sensors by eight additional analog inputs, providing a scalable and modular expansion of your existing monitoring infrastructure.

Alerting and monitoring functions

Like all Didactum monitoring systems, the expansion unit fully integrates into the existing alert and notification structure. Alarms can be triggered in real time and delivered through multiple channels:

  • Email notifications when threshold limits are exceeded
  • SMS alerts via the optional GSM modem
  • SNMP traps for network management systems
  • Activation of external sirens or relay outputs

This ensures comprehensive responsiveness to critical environmental changes, such as temperature rises, humidity fluctuations, or power failures.

Typical applications

  • Data centers and server rooms: Expansion for temperature, humidity, and airflow sensors.
  • Building technology: Monitoring of power, climate, or access control systems.
  • Industrial facilities: Integration of additional sensors in production or storage areas.
  • Long‑distance monitoring: Using the 225 m extension for remote technical rooms.

Comprehensive web‑based management

All connected sensors and expansion modules are automatically listed in the web interface of your Didactum monitoring unit. Within the interface, users can:

  • Assign individual sensor names
  • Define thresholds and alarm types
  • Manage data logging and SNMP integration

The sensor expansion delivers maximum transparency within your monitoring infrastructure – centrally managed via a browser‑based interface.

Scalable expansion for precise environmental monitoring

The Didactum 8x Analog Expansion Unit is the ideal solution for anyone seeking to expand their monitoring system flexibly. With simple installation, automatic sensor detection, and full compatibility with all Didactum monitoring systems, large‑scale environmental monitoring networks can be deployed quickly and reliably – from IT infrastructure to building automation.

Expansion Unit for Sensors 8x Analog
The TCP/IP-based Didactum monitoring systems provide in their base version 4 or 8 ports for analog sensors, depending on the model. Customers who require a larger number of sensors can connect more sensors to the networked IT monitoring system via this expansion unit.

Up to 8 sensors can be mounted on each sensor expansion unit. Depending on the sensor type, the sensors can be installed at distances ranging from 50 to 150 meters from the expansion unit. The sensor unit is connected to the CAN bus of the monitoring system using an RJ-12 patch cable.
